Several fairies arrive to bless the child with gifts of beauty, grace, joy, generosity, and temperament. But when an uninvited fairy named Carabosse appears, she places a dark curse on the child— Aurora will prick her finger on a spindle and fall into a deep sleep on her sixteenth birthday. Join us as we tell the story of a kind and powerful Lilac Fairy, the vengeful Carabosse, an enchanted spindle, a hundred-year slumber, and the brave prince whose love is strong enough to awaken the sleeping princess. Sleeping Beauty Synopsis
There is excitement in the kingdom as a new princess has recently been born — Princess Aurora. To celebrate her birth, the King and Queen invite guests from far and wide to the palace. As the curtain rises, the palace is bustling with activity as the Master of Ceremonies checks the guest list. Royal courtiers and enchanted fairies arrive one by one, bringing joy and music to the celebration. Among the guests are six fairies who serve as Aurora’s godmothers. Each fairy brings a special gift for the baby princess: Beauty, Grace, Generosity, Song, and Temperament. But before the final fairy, the Lilac Fairy, can bestow her blessing, a sudden darkness falls over the palace. The wicked fairy Carabosse and her frightening creatures burst into the room, furious that she was not invited. In a fit of rage, Carabosse curses the baby Aurora: on her 16th birthday, she will prick her finger on a spindle and die. Gasps and cries echo through the hall. But the Lilac Fairy steps forward. She cannot undo the spell entirely, but she softens it — instead of death, Aurora will fall into a deep sleep, only to be awakened by the kiss of a true-hearted prince. |
