Sleeping Beauty Synopsis

There is excitement in the kingdom as a new princess has recently been born — Princess Aurora. To celebrate her birth, the King and Queen invite guests from far and wide to the palace. As the curtain rises, the palace is bustling with activity as the Master of Ceremonies checks the guest list. Royal courtiers and enchanted fairies arrive one by one, bringing joy and music to the celebration. Among the guests are six fairies who serve as Aurora’s godmothers. Each fairy brings a special gift for the baby princess: Beauty, Grace, Generosity, Song, and Temperament. But before the final fairy, the Lilac Fairy, can bestow her blessing, a sudden darkness falls over the palace.

The wicked fairy Carabosse and her frightening creatures burst into the room, furious that she was not invited. In a fit of rage, Carabosse curses the baby Aurora: on her 16th birthday, she will prick her finger on a spindle and die. Gasps and cries echo through the hall. But the Lilac Fairy steps forward. She cannot undo the spell entirely, but she softens it — instead of death, Aurora will fall into a deep sleep, only to be awakened by the kiss of a true-hearted prince.

Carabosse, angered by the Lilac Fairy’s interference, vanishes into the shadows, plotting to make her curse come true.

Sixteen years have passed, and Princess Aurora is now a young woman. The King and Queen host a grand celebration in her honor. Princes from faraway lands attend in hopes of winning her hand in marriage. The palace is filled with festivity — the villagers dance with flower garlands, and Aurora dazzles everyone with her famous Rose Adagio, dancing gracefully with the visiting princes.

As the celebration continues, a mysterious old woman approaches Aurora with a gift — a bouquet of her favorite flowers. Unbeknownst to all, the old woman is Carabosse in disguise, and inside the bouquet hides a spindle. Aurora dances joyfully with her gift, but suddenly pricks her finger and collapses to the ground.

Panic fills the room. Carabosse throws off her disguise and cackles triumphantly, declaring her curse fulfilled. But just then, the Lilac Fairy appears, reminding all of her blessing. Aurora is not dead — she is only sleeping.
To protect the princess and all who love her, the Lilac Fairy casts a gentle spell, sending the entire kingdom into a deep, peaceful slumber until the day Aurora may awaken.

A hundred years have passed. The castle is awakened by a true-hearted prince whose love was strong enough to break the curse on Princess Aurora. Now, preparations for a royal wedding are underway! The palace sparkles with joy. The villagers and attendants sweep away the dust of the ages and dance a lively polonaise. Magical fairy tale characters arrive to bless the marriage and entertain the royal court: the Bluebird and Princess Florine, Puss in Boots and the White Cat, and even Little Red Riding Hood with the Wolf.

Finally, Princess Aurora and Prince Florimund perform their elegant Grand Wedding Pas de Deux. They are married in a magnificent ceremony, blessed by the King and Queen, and by the Lilac Fairy, whose wisdom and kindness saved the kingdom. The story ends in celebration, with love, magic, and the triumph of good over evil.
