About The Company
Texture Contemporary Ballet is based in Pittsburgh PA, and was founded in 2011 by Artistic Director Alan Obuzor
Texture is comprised of classically trained professional ballet dancers who have danced and trained at some of the top ballet companies and schools in America. Resident and guest dancers are brought together to create and present predominantly contemporary and neo-classical work.
Texture strives to inspire dancers, teachers, directors, choreographers, audience members, and artists of every kind, by presenting ballet in an innovative way. We believe it is important to break through preconceived notions that people may hold while witnessing ballet for the first time. Texture simultaneously fulfills the expectations of first time attendees, frequent theatergoers, and those who are deeply submerged in the dance world. Texture presents dance which is unique and inviting, yet also technical and precise.
As a new works company, we are always creating, experimenting, learning, and growing. This ongoing creative process enables us to continuously explore different ideas and present pieces by a variety of artists. Throughout our season, we regularly feature new work created by our resident choreographers, while also featuring newly commissioned pieces by guest choreographers.
Each year, Texture Contemporary Ballet creates and presents more new work than most other companies across the country. We are very proud to offer our audience something new at every performance.
In the studio and on the stage, we create a supportive environment where all artists - whether dancers, choreographers, musicians, or designers - can thrive, grow, and learn from each other. It is through this community of shared passion, energy, and encouragement that Texture is able to create and present such cohesive, yet multi-faceted, performances that move audience members and ignite or foster an appreciation of dance.
