Texture Choreography Project - How to Apply


​Texture Choreography Project(TCP) is a celebration of new, original choreography! This is an opportunity for choreographers with a range of experience to showcase their work and new ideas. Guest choreographers are invited to present their own work or to choreograph new work on Texture dancers. Choreographers are encouraged to take risks, to try out new concepts, and explore. 

This project will culminate in a live performance on Friday, November 15, 2024 at The Greer Cabaret Theater in Downtown Pittsburgh ​

How can choreographers present work for Texture Choreography Project? 
There is an application process with two different options.

Option #1: Choreograph on Texture Dancers - Applying to come in and choreograph a piece using Texture resident dancers. Choreographers who are selected for this option will be provided with:
  • Texture’s resident dancers to create a piece on (1 male, 6 females)
  • Rehearsal space  
  • Performance venue to showcase new work  
  • $200 stipend 
Apply - Option #1
​Option #2: Bring your own dancers - Applying to bring a piece to be presented at our performance, utilizing your own dancers/movers. Choreographers who are selected for this option will be provided with:
  • Rehearsal space (if needed)
  • Performance venue to showcase work    ​

*Choreographers can apply for option #1, option #2, or both options 
* There is a $20 Application fee to apply

Who can apply to present work for Texture Choreography Project?
Anyone who is interested in presenting work to be performed. New choreographers, established choreographers, independent choreographers, individuals, groups, students.

Does work need to be ballet or contemporary based?
No - all types of dance and movement based choreographers are welcomed and encouraged to apply to present work!

What do we prioritize in our selection process?
For this project, we prefer new works, though choreographers are still eligible to apply to present an existing work. We are looking to elevate a diverse set of choreographic voices and we are looking for unique choreographic points of view no matter what stage of their career a choreographer is in.

Deadline to apply: Friday September 6th, 2024

​Choreographers will be notified if their piece was selected by September 27th, 2024 

*There will be a $200 stipend paid for choreographers who are selected to choreograph on Texture’s Resident Dancers

*This will be an unpaid opportunity for choreographers who are selected to present work with their own dancers

Texture Contemporary Ballet is a Pittsburgh-based dance company that fuses the power and precision of classical ballet with the freedom and creativity of contemporary dance to surprise and delight audiences and empower the next generation of dancers and choreographers.

We were founded in 2011 by Alan Obuzor, and since then we have been creating and presenting predominantly new and original dance works for people who love to be inspired through dance. In our work, we enable our artists to take creative risks, and we help our audiences to experience their thoughts and emotions by forming connections through live movement and dance.
