Experience a performance filled with artistic exploration in "Uncharted", March 22-24! This full evening of world premieres will feature choreography by four dynamic choreographers, with each piece delving into an intriguing theme.
Artistic Director Alan Obuzor will be presenting "The Piece", which will give the viewer a glimpse into the process of creating a new dance work. The audience will also witness how different music can inspire the creative process and ultimately influence the finished piece. Join us to see how, one step at a time, choreography is built and woven together!
Texture's own Kelsey Bartman and Alexandra Tiso are collaborating on a new work, set to the music of Coldplay. The duo has Texture trading in traditional dance footwear for sneakers, which amplify the unique movement style of their choreography. Though largely abstract, the piece will play with the idea of recognizing burdens in our lives and eventually freeing ourselves of them.
Guest choreographer Christopher Bandy will also be joining Texture to create a new work on our resident dancers, with the eerie, sensuous, whimsical music of Tom Waits as a fitting background. As with Waits' music, this new work is a celebration of the ordinary, a peek into the beauty and humanity of our personal imperfections and illogical relationships. Mr. Bandy choreographed this work in memory of Barbie Honeycutt, an extraordinarily caring woman who made his street into a neighborhood.
