Fragments of Time will feature Artistic Director’s Alan Obuzor’s work Un-Preservation of Humanism, which first premiered in 2016. This work is set to the stirring and emotional music of Ezio Bosso. In this piece, the dancers are on pointe while melding together movement that is grounded, visceral, and human. This piece abstractly takes a look at humans, human conflict, and the way that some groups of people have treated, ‘othered’, and subjugated their fellow humans throughout our existence as a species. Throughout our history humans have at times struggled with a lack or loss of compassion which has enabled them to dehumanize others; Un-Preservation of Humanism explores what this can look like.
The program will also showcase Alan’s newest work What is a Life?, which explores concepts of the universe and an individual's place in it. Alan has jumped into a new avenue of creativity by writing a spoken work poem which will be featured in this new piece. The rest of the soundscape for this piece features other spoken word poems, as well as music by artists such as Old Sea Brigade and Gregory Alan Isakov. Join us to witness in-person this striking, emotional and thought provoking performance - On stage September 20-22! |
