Texture Choreography Project is a celebration of new, original choreography! This is an opportunity for choreographers with a range of experience to share their artistic voice, providing a platform for artists at all stages of their careers to create, experiment, and present their final product in a formal performance.
Eight guest choreographers were selected from a pool of applicants, along with Texture resident dancers Madeline Kendall Schreiber & Jillian Sinko and Artistic Director Alan Obuzor. The choreographers were offered two incredible options to create and showcase their work - to present work at the performance using their own dancers or to have the unique opportunity to create their work on Texture's resident dancers. Our 2024 choreographers are: Theodore Alexander - freelance choreographer Anthony Alterio - freelance artist & professor at Ohio University Irania B Garcia - IBGMovimiento Brittany A. Nettles - Shana Simmons Dance & adjunct faculty at Point Park University Haley Nolan - freelance artist & Artistic Director of Nolan Dance Collective Alan Obuzor - Artistic Director of Texture Contemporary Ballet Anna Caison Roguski - freelance choreographer & adjunct professor at Chatham University JoAnna Schmitt - freelance choreographer & soloist at Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Madeline Kendall Schreiber - resident dancer with Texture Contemporary Ballet Jillian Sinko - resident dancer with Texture Contemporary Ballet Deanna Stanton - freelance choreographer & company artist with Ballet Arkansas Choreographers are encouraged to take risks, to try out new concepts, and explore. Texture Contemporary Ballet is a Pittsburgh-based dance company that fuses the power and precision of classical ballet with the freedom and creativity of contemporary dance to surprise and delight audiences and empower the next generation of dancers and choreographers.
We were founded in 2011 by Alan Obuzor, and since then we have been creating and presenting predominantly new and original dance works for people who love to be inspired through dance. In our work, we enable our artists to take creative risks, and we help our audiences to experience their thoughts and emotions by forming connections through live movement and dance.
