Art brings life to life, and live performances are like nothing else. After much consideration, and with a heavy heart, Texture Contemporary Ballet has decided to postpone our upcoming public performances of Personal & Powerful, Dance Shorts, and our Children's Performance due to the local and national concern around the spread of COVID-19. The health and safety of our patrons, students, teachers, artists, and the community at large is our first priority. Our artistic staff and dancers have been excitedly working to prepare Personal & Powerful and it is our hope that we will be able to reschedule a time when we can present these performances. We will be in contact with Personal & Powerful ticket holders as details of our postponement unfold.
On behalf of all of us here at Texture, we would like to thank you for your patience and continued support. Please stay safe, we are all in this together.
Sincerely, Alan Obuzor - Artistic & Executive Director
About the Program:
Get lost in an artistic exploration of human connection and complex social issues in Texture's upcoming performances of "Personal & Powerful"!
The show will feature a new work by guest choreographer Shana Simmons, which will highlight the impact of societal "soap boxes" and the loss of personal connection that exists when people continue to talk at one another, rather than having a visceral human exchange. Texture dancer Alexandra Tiso will present her new piece, "Woman," inspired by the ability of women to persevere and the strength of a woman's heart, while Kelsey Bartman and Madeline Kendall create a neoclassical collaboration, influenced by the tensions that can arise between individuals when insecurity blinds us from seeing each other's true intentions. Closing out the performance will be the return of Alan Obuzor's introspective work, "Unchanging Change", which originally premiered in 2014. The piece explores how people are simultaneously connected yet also separate from each other, and features music by Max Richter, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and spoken-word poet Andrea Gibson.
Join us for "Personal & Powerful," March 20-22, and experience a stirring and intimate evening of dance!
