As a new works company, we are always creating, experimenting, learning, and growing. This ongoing creative process enables us to continuously explore different ideas and present pieces by a variety of artists.
Each year, Texture Contemporary Ballet creates and presents more new work than most other companies across the country. We are very proud to offer our audience something that is new and fresh at every performance.
For this performance of Unyielding Now, Texture will be presenting Timbre, choreographed by Artistic Director Alan Obuzor. Timbre is a 37-minute piece that fuses together elements of contemporary dance, modern dance, house dance, and pointe work. Timbre has undertones of exploring people's differences and similarities, while abstractly acknowledging human similarities are more unifying and more consequential than any differences that we may have. Unyielding Now will also premier Alan's latest work, which is an abstract contemporary ballet piece for three dancers, set to the music of Agnes Obel.
Texture is excited to present With Alacrity... created by guest choreographer Nicole Haskins. Originally created for Amy Seiwert's Imagery in San Francisco, Nicole's inspiration for the piece came from the desire to create something that celebrated joy and togetherness and all that life can offer.
Also on this program is a new work by Texture Resident Dancer Madeline Kendall. Madeline has choreographed many works for Texture’s WIP choreography project, as well as choreographing for several of Texture mainstage shows. ForUnyielding Now, she is creating a piece that draws inspiration from the ocean, marine life, and its varied diversity and vibrancy. Madeline has a strong, dynamic presence on stage, plus a thoughtful, detailed eye for creating visual art, which she brings to all her creations and is showcased in her choreography. Join us to experience the energy and power of dynamic movement by our incredible artists! Unyielding Now is on stage September 22-24!
